I Walk So Others Can Cook, Bathe, Drink, and Live
Today we walked in Biloxi Mississippi for a great cause. We started at a great memorial that we will all remember, the Katrina Hurricane Memorial. That was truly a disaster that we want to put behind. Brent Evans and Raleigh Hoke spoke about the importance of water and why Aveda Salons worldwide and Gulf Restoration Network are working hard to support clean water on our coast. Aveda has been doing this for the last couple of years by partnering with great groups like the Gulf Restoration Network and Clean Air Green Tour.
Gulf Restoration Network works to build a unified voice for the protection of restoration of the Gulf of Mexico's natural resources and beauty.
Today the walk consisted of a beautiful 6km through downtown Biloxi past the Hard Rock Casino, Beau Rivage, and along the beautfiul coast. The walk end at Town Green Park and concluded with a couple of drawings and guest speaker James Paar of Clean Air Green Tour. James spoke about what the Clean Air Green Tour has been doing since 2006 and has planted over 150,000 trees and traveled the country educating consumers about how they can help. The 2010 Clean Air Green Tour will start in June and hit the road with new sponsors and a new message.
The Aveda Walk for Water raised $1,692 for Gulf Restoration Network!!
There were 35 walkers present, representing 10 Aveda Salons:

REGROW AMERICA - Clean Air Green Tour to plant one million trees in 2010
REGROW AMERICA CAMPAIGNCan one tree make a diiference? Yes, the Clean Air Green
Tour has started a new campaign this year and our goal is
to plant one million trees.
This will have an incredible impact on the environment
and will produce new growth to areas in the world damaged
by storms and natural disaster. By simply donating $5 dollars
we will plant a tree in your honor and the honorof a loved
one such as a fallen soldier.
The Clean Air Green Tour has donated more trees to the
environment than any other single mobile marketing tour.
We purchase trees from growers around the nation and work
with communities in delivery a better environment for our
future.
In 2009 we went into one of the hardest hit communities
in Detroit and participated in a complete city park renovation.
By creating this new green space we get kids focus off of
drugs and out of gangs. This was so rewarding and consisted
of new park benches, 28 large trees, and most of all brought
the community together. Best part of this, our sponsors are
the hero’s in these communities.
The Clean Air Green Tour is partnered with many Federal,
State, and local forestry departments bringing their expertise.
As a part of last years commitment we worked with the
Kentucky Department of Forestry proving that strip mines
can be revitalized. We planted thousands of trees in one
afternoon. We are excited to go back in 2010 and see how
nature is taking its course.
Take the first step now in making a positive impact on our
environment.

Earth Month - Clean Air Green Tour

WALK FOR PEOPLE. WALK FOR PLANET. WALK FOR WATER.
Last Earth Month we let our feet do the talking with our first-ever Aveda Walk for Water. Over 130 walks were held around the world for clean water.
The Aveda Walk for Water happens in cities all over the world during the week of Earth Day, April 22—to raise awareness and funding for clean water organizations. Find a walk near you here.
Find your local Earth Month Leader Salon/Spa here. Earth Month Leaders are locations that met or exceeded their Earth Month fundraising goals.
TAKE YOUR OWN STEPS.
Clean water makes a world of difference, and conservation is one of the easiest, most inexpensive ways to prevent water shortages. It's a simple as becoming more aware, and using less each time you use water:
Use less water in your home and yard to prevent wastewater and pollution from runoff. Sweep driveways and sidewalks, rather than hosing them down.
Use pesticides sparingly—if at all—and compost leaves and yard clippings for use as natural fertilizer in your garden or yard.
Pick up—and properly dispose of—pet waste, trash and other debris in your neighborhood; street gutters and storm drains often run directly into lakes, streams, rivers and wetlands.
Keep your car clean and green: choose a professional car wash that recycles its water; promptly repair auto leaks; and recycle used motor oil—a single quart that seeps into groundwater can pollute 250,000 gallons of drinking water*.
Properly recycle electronics, appliances, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), silver batteries and paint to keep toxic pollutants out of your water.

Offshore Drilling Approved by Obama off Coast of Florida
Last night President Obama approved offshore drilling in the Florida waters for additional oil to get the United States through the next 5-10 years.
With that said how do you really feel about our President's stand on green? Does President Obama truly care about the environment or is he falling into the political landslide.
I remember when he ran for office he spoke about creating jobs in the green industry of power not oil. Also he has approved 8.3 billion in building the first nuclear power plant in three decades, does that count as "Hope and Change"? What happened to the solar, wind farms, green jobs, and green promises?
I stand on a neutral political level voting for the person with the ideas I feel helps this planet and its people. Let me hear your thoughts about what is going on in the United States with green energy.
